Mayor Betsy Price asks Fort Worth residents to reach out to a neighbor on Dec. 21 to bring awareness to isolation during COVID-19.
Social distancing doesn’t have to feel like social isolation.
COVID-19 has changed how we live, work and play, understandably creating stress, anxiety and depression. Recent research has demonstrated a significant association between social isolation and mental health concerns.
To help Fort Worth residents remain connected to others during the holiday season, Mayor Betsy Price is encouraging residents to participate in Reach Out Fort Worth Day on Monday, Dec. 21. It’s a day intended to motivate and empower the community to meaningfully connect with and support those around them.
“We must all remain vigilant in maintaining our public health measures to keep COVID-19 at bay,” Mayor Betsy Price said. “However, we can no longer ignore the other public health crises that are being brought on by the isolation, fear and economic destruction caused by this pandemic.”
Mental health crisis, addiction, isolation and abuse are all on the rise in the community, and we need to be there for friends, family, coworkers and neighbors who may be suffering silently, Price said. Reach Out Fort Worth Day is a reminder to connect with and check on those around you.
