City Council on Tuesday evening selected Historic Marine as the neighborhood to focus its $3,887,650 Neighborhood Improvement Program allocation in 2023.

What the program accomplishes: The Neighborhood Improvement Program is an annual effort of the City of Fort Worth, implemented by Neighborhood Services Department staff, that provides targeted capital investments to improve the quality of life and enhance public safety in traditionally underserved communities.

Historic Marine was selected based on several key categories, including:

  • Financial hardship
  • Opportunity
  • Neighborhood condition

Where is it? The target neighborhood lies in Council District 2 and is bounded by Circle Park Boulevard on the west, Northwest 23rd Street on the north, the Trinity River on the east and Grand Avenue and North 10th Street on the south.

While Neighborhood Services coordinates the program from start to finish, the program is community driven. Feedback from local residents and business owners in the target area is vital to the program’s success.

Previous target areas: Las Vegas Trail, Como, Rosemont, Northside, Ash Crescent and Stop Six.

City departments such as Code Compliance, Park & Recreation, Transportation & Public Works all play an important role in making neighborhood improvements. Some examples of improvements in previous Neighborhood Improvement areas:

  • Police neighborhood presence and community interaction
  • Police and Code Compliance security camera installations
  • Trash and litter pickup
  • Streetlights installed by Transportation & Public Works
  • Installing new playground equipment and trails
  • Building new sidewalks
