Street & Transportation Improvements

The project proposes improvements to seven intersections (1st to 9th Streets; not 3rd or 4th) with enhancements for pedestrian safety along Main Street in downtown.

Current plans include:

  • Pedestrian safety signals
  • Security cameras
  • New pavement markings
  • New brick ADA compliant ramps
  • Installation of new traffic signals consistent with those at 3rd and 4th streets.

This project is in Council District 9.

February 2026 Project Status

Construction for the Main Street Intersection Improvements project is now planned to begin after the conclusion of the World Cup.

The project was originally scheduled to begin prior to the World Cup. However, due to the anticipated 6–9 month construction duration and the potential for conflicts with major downtown events, the project was divided into two phases.

Subsequent evaluation determined that signal pole procurement lead times of approximately 16–20 weeks would make completion of Phase 1 before the World Cup unlikely. As a result, work on Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the project is now scheduled to commence after the World Cup concludes.
