Library Accessibility Resources

The items in our physical and digital collection can be modified for guests with accessibility needs. Visit the front desk or ask a staff member at any library for help finding these resources.

• Large-Print Books are available for adults in all genres. We regularly add to this collection.

• Wonderbooks and Vox Books provide built-in digital players and are available in English and Spanish for preschool and elementary-age children.

• DVDs and Blu-rays can be selected with closed captioning and/or video recording for people with hearing impairments.

• E-books provide the option to choose variable text size, contrast and font styles, including OpenDyslexic.

• Downloadable Audiobooks provide the option to choose variable speed. We regularly add new releases and older titles.

• Digital Magazines provide limited resizing of fonts.

• Screen Readers such as iOS VoiceOver, Android TalkBack, NVDA and JAWS allow guests with visual impairments to browse and borrow titles from the library, read e-books and listen to audiobooks. 

• Curbside Delivery is available for guests who need materials delivered to their car.

Every Fort Worth Public Library offers accessibility toolkits for guests of all ages.

Accessibility toolkits can help guests with sensory needs feel more comfortable and engaged during their visit. Ask the front desk or a staff member for assistance! Each toolkit includes the following items:

• Noise-canceling earmuffs with disposable covers

• A variety of handheld magnifying glasses

• Colored mylar overlays to assist readers with dyslexia

• Sentence strip reading guides

• Gel fidgets

All Fort Worth Public Libraries offer communication boards to help individuals with limited verbal skills.

With a communication board, a person can point to pictures or symbols and share what they need, make choices and express how they feel. Visit the front desk at any library and ask to use a communication board to enhance your library experience!

There are a variety of additional accessibility resources offered by our partners, including:

• Texas State Library Association Talking Book Program—Provides free library services to qualifying Texans with visual, physical or reading disabilities.

• National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled—A free national library program that provides braille and recorded materials to people who cannot see regular print or handle print materials.
