If you received a citation for parking in a disabled parking space while transporting a disabled person, you may:
- Contest the citation If you contest in person, bring with you or include a copy of the front and back of the disabled parking placard, a copy of the disabled person’s driver’s license or identification card, and a notarized letter from the disabled person stating what occurred. If you contest online or by mail, be sure to submit the same documents as mentioned above.
If you received a citation for parking at an expired meter and have been issued a disabled parking placard or disabled license plates, you may:
- Contest the citation If you contest in person, bring your disabled parking placard and driver’s license, or a copy of your current vehicle registration that indicates the date the disabled license plates were issued to the vehicle. If you contest online or by mail, be sure to submit the same documents as mentioned above.
If you received a citation for parking in a disabled parking space or parking at an expired meter, and the disabled parking placard was expired, or the disabled license plates were expired, you may:
- Contest the citation Be sure to obtain a renewed placard or renewed license plates. The placard or license plates must be renewed before the citation may be considered for dismissal.
Persons with disabilities who do not have a disabled parking placard or disabled license plates
If you qualify for a disabled parking placard or disabled license plates but do not have either one, you may apply for the placard or license plates at your local county tax assessor - collector’s office or visit the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles website.
