Altamesa Pump Station Backup Power and Electric Improvements

  • Project typeWater and Wastewater Improvements
Water & Sanitary Sewer Imrpovements

The Altamesa Pump Station is one of four large City of Fort Worth Water Department pump stations that are essential for water supply. The other pump stations in this capital improvement project include Edwards Ranch, Eastside and Como.

The Altamesa Pump Station requires replacement of aging electrical switchgear and motor as well as backup generators. The improvements are vital to keep the pump stations operating if there is another deep freeze similar to the one that Fort Worth experienced in February 2021.

The Altamesa location is bound by Wallingford Drive to the west, the YMCA Sports Complex to the east, Cardiff Avenue to the northwest, and Altamesa Boulevard to the south. Landmarks include the YMCA Sports Complex, Southwest High School, Southwest Community Center and JT Stevens Elementary School.

The work in this project will be contained within the Altamesa Pump Station site – in the 4300 block of Altamesa Boulevard – which is predominantly residential.

These pump stations work to maintain consistent water pressure and provide adequate flow of water. The water pump stations serve to move potable (drinking) water from lower elevations to reservoirs and water towers that are at a higher elevation within the system.

The February 2021 deep freeze caused power failures to Eagle Mountain Water Treatment Plant, the Westside Water Treatment Plant, and impacted the North Holly and South Holly Water Treatment Plants. This was in addition to power supply and freezing issues at pump stations, including Altamesa, Eastside, Como. The pump stations and North Holly and South Holly will be outfitted with backup generators.

This project is in Fort Worth Council District 9 and the Wedgwood Square neighborhood association area.

*** The contractor will mobilize construction at the Altamesa Pump Station at the beginning of February 2024. Work will start the second week in February. ***
