Retail Prescriptions
OptumRx, the city’s retail prescription program, uses a network of participating pharmacies. To receive the highest level of benefits, you must use a participating pharmacy.
Prescriptions filled at a non-participating pharmacy are generally not covered. Those enrolled in the city’s medical plan will automatically receive prescription drug coverage.

Maintenance Medication
Plan members who take maintenance medication for chronic conditions will need to use the Select90 program to fill their prescriptions. You can go to Walgreens, or use OptumRx mail order for medication to treat chronic conditions such as arthritis, asthma, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and others.
Medications that are available over the counter (OTC) are not covered by OptumRx, and generic

Rightway, the city’s NEW retail prescription program, uses a network of participating pharmacies and will replace OptumRx starting 1/1/2026. To receive the highest level of benefits, you must use a participating pharmacy.
