About the Neighborhood Improvement Program
The program is an annual initiative by the City of Fort Worth's Neighborhood Services Department. It strategically focuses on enhancing the quality of life and public safety within historically underserved communities.
Although the Neighborhood Services coordinates it, the program is community-driven. Fort Worth City departments like Code Compliance, Park & Recreation and Transportation & Public Works deliver capital to neighborhoods for improvements. Examples include police safety improvements like cameras, trash pickup, streetlights, parks, sidewalks, bike lanes, traffic calming, recreation amenities, code enforcement, neighborhood cleanups, demolishing vacant structures and building neighborhood associations.
Feedback from residents and business owners in the target area helps shape the type of capital investments and programs developed for each neighborhood. This data-driven approach ensures that the program's resources are directed toward areas with the greatest need, maximizing the positive impact on the selected communities.
City departments such as Code Compliance, Park & Recreation and Transportation & Public Works all play an important role in making neighborhood improvements by delivering capital the neighborhoods. Some examples of improvements in previous Neighborhood Improvement Program areas include:
- Police safety improvements such as police cameras
- Trash and litter pickup
- Streetlight installations
- Park development and new park equipment
